Chapter 29, 30 and 31
Chapter 29 occurs back home at the Jarrett residence. Beth sat quiet the whole way home. When they got home, they went for supper and Beth and Conrad got along really well. After supper all three went home and went to bed. When Cal said goodnight to Beth, she simply ignored him. In Chapter 30 Conrad was with Jeannine. They were playing guitar and hanging out. Jeannine told Con all about her past about being a rebellious teenager and hanging around with the groups her parents didn’t like. Then she told him about her stealing and getting caught. Then she questioned him about the attempted suicide, asking if it hurt and why he did it. In the last chapter of the book we learn about Beth and that she’s leaving. She left it up to Calvin to tell Conrad. Conrad was very confused, and upset that she left without saying goodbye. Calvin rented a house in Evanston. Calvin snapped on Conrad, blaming him for her leaving, then he apologized and Conrad also did. They exchanged “I love yous" and are waiting for whatever may come next.
Chapter 29, 30 and 31
I tried to combine this section as it’s more of the conclusive section.
At the beginning of this section, Beth and Calvin came home and they all went out for supper. Beth and Conrad got along very well at supper. When Cal said goodnight to Beth, she just ignored him. Conrad opened up to Jeannine, he told her everything about his attempted suicide, and she told him everything about her past. This is how we know he is recovered. He can open up to others, laugh, joke around, let anger out and spend time with his friends. Conrad went to play golf with Lazenby and that went well. In this section Beth left the boys. She went to tour Europe. She didn’t say goodbye to Conrad and left Calvin to tell him for one last time. Conrad was upset and confused about her leaving and asked if it was his fault. Calvin snapped on Conrad telling him yes, it was his entire fault and that he needed to grow up and get his stuff together. Calvin caught himself quickly and apologized, but Conrad only half accepted it. He told him that he needed to do that more often and that he was a brat before. This is also a good sign for Calvin as he can now turn his anger out also rather than in. Calvin had rented a house in Evanston for the two of them to live at.
